The images below indicate how you can tell if you have duplicate (or multiple) Crazy Egg tracking scripts on your page.
Why does this happen?
There are two reasons why duplicate tracking scripts are installed on the same page.
- You may be using multiple integration methods. -OR-
- Two different Crazy Egg accounts are tracking the same web page.
Should I be concerned?
Yes.
While we suppress multiple running scripts, only one account can track the data. Depending on which script is triggered, you will experience an unintended sampling of visits.
How to Resolve this Situation
You will want to check your page for the extra script(s). Here is a recommended process to help you resolve this situation.
- Step 1
- Open your page in a new tab, right-click anywhere o the page, and choose Inspect from the menu that appears.
- Step 2
-
Under the Elements tab, search for “script.crazyegg.com/pages/scripts/". Hit the return key after you have entered the search item.
Note: Click CTRL + F (on Windows) or Command + F (on a Mac) to add the search field.
- Step 3
- Do you see 1 of 2 or 1 of #? This indicates there are multiple Crazy Egg scripts on your page. The down and up arrow to the right of 1 of 2 (as in the screenshot below) will highlight each script.
How Do I Resolve this?
- Step 1
- Remove any script that does not match the script from your Crazy Egg account
- Remove any extra plugins used to install Crazy Egg
- Remove any extra GTM scripts
- Remove any scripts added manually (hard-coded) on your page
- Step 2
- Search the Elements tab again for “script.crazyegg.com/pages/scripts/". You should now see 1 of 1; the script should match the one in your Crazy Egg account.
- Step 3
- If you still see this error, please Submit a request – Crazy Egg. Please include the name of the Snapshot and the page URL.
