Shopify Conversions for Checkout Events

Crazy Egg can track Add to Cart conversions on Shopify stores by default.

To track Start Checkout and Complete Checkout conversions, Shopify Plus stores need to add a Crazy Egg custom pixel to Shopify. Once the pixel is connected, Crazy Egg can detect these checkout events and use them as conversion goals.

This setup is available only to stores on the Shopify Plus plan.

Before you begin

You’ll need:

  • A Shopify Plus store
  • Access to your Shopify store admin
  • The Crazy Egg custom pixel script

Add the Crazy Egg custom pixel to Shopify

  1. Log in to your Shopify store admin.
  2. Use the search field at the top of the page to search for custom pixel.
  3. Select the first result to open the Customer events page.
  4. Click Add custom pixel.
  5. Enter crazyegg as the pixel name.
  6. Shopify will open the page for your new custom pixel.
  7. Delete everything currently in the Code field.
  8. Paste the Crazy Egg custom pixel script into the Code field.
  9. Click Save at the top of the page.
  10. Click Connect, then confirm that you want to connect the pixel.

Your Crazy Egg custom pixel is now active on your Shopify store.

What happens next?

Once the custom pixel is connected, Crazy Egg can receive the Shopify checkout events needed to track:

  • Start Checkout — when a visitor begins the checkout process
  • Complete Checkout — when a visitor completes a purchase

You can then select Start Checkout or Complete Checkout when setting up a Shopify conversion goal in Crazy Egg.

Troubleshooting

If Crazy Egg isn’t detecting Start Checkout or Complete Checkout conversions, confirm that:

  • Your store is on Shopify Plus.
  • The crazyegg custom pixel is saved and connected in Shopify.
  • The complete Crazy Egg custom pixel script was pasted into the Code field.
  • The pixel hasn’t been disconnected or deleted in Shopify.

Shopify manages custom pixels from Settings > Customer events in the Shopify admin.
