Understanding the Metric Comparison Arrows in Web Analytics

In the Web Analytics dashboard, each metric card (Unique Visitors, Pageviews, Sessions, etc.) shows a percentage change with an up or down arrow beneath the main number.

What do the arrows mean?

The arrows show how your metrics compare to the previous equivalent period, based on whatever date range you’ve selected in the date picker.

For example:

  • Last 30 days selected → Compares the last 30 days to the 30 days before that.
  • Last 7 days selected → Compares the last 7 days to the 7 days before that.
  • Custom date range → Compares your selected range to the equal-length period immediately before it.

How to read the arrows

  • Green arrow — the metric increased compared to the previous period
  • Red arrow — the metric decreased compared to the previous period

For metrics like Bounce Rate, a decrease (↓) is usually a good thing, lower bounce rates generally mean visitors are engaging more with your content.

Changing your date range

Use the date picker in the top right of the dashboard to adjust your selected period. The comparison will automatically update to reflect the new range.
